2007 SFDA winners

Congratulations to the winners of the 2007 Sothertons Fashion Design Awards.

The standard of entries was outstanding and has set a high standard for future events.

Lara Blue Tertiary Student Designs “Rainbow Jail Cell”

“Rainbow Jail Cell” is an avant-garde swimwear collection inspired by musical lyrics and transformed into a colourful bold collection. The collection speaks for itself with a mix of vivid colours, strips and highly reflective silver. Inspired by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers lyric “I’m the rainbow in your jail cell”. Aysha is a former Gladstone girl who trained at the Whitehouse Institute of Design.

Katrina Eliott Photography Kids Wear “Somewhere over the rainbow”

“Somewhere over the rainbow” reflects what young girls love to wear; bright, colourful, fun and practical. Sian has used denim as a contrast for the many colours of the rainbow, to create a fun collection with many colourful embellishments and accessories.
Sian is a talented young designer from the Whitsunday area who has supported our event since 2005.
McDonalds Secondary Student Design Jacqueline Curran

Jacqueline is a 17 year old student currently in Year 12 in Buderim. This collection features baby doll style dresses with intricate knife pleating and a delicate satin ribbon bow. The judges were very impressed with the quality of this entry for a Secondary Student Design. Congratulations Jacqueline!
Kershur Mills
(Highly Commended)
This local Gladstone girl is in Year 12 and impressed the judges with this very well made, gorgeous silk gown. Designed with a touch of flair, a touch of fashion.
Hastings Deering Streetwear Maricel Cabig
This collection is fun and uncomplicated inspired by the “free spirited sixties”, and caught the judges eye by “pushing the boundaries”.
Portside Apartments Swim Surf Lifestyle Macey B Brenda Macey from Hervey Bay shows her outstanding talent with this swimwear collection. Brenda has been a wonderful supporter of our event since 2005 and we are delighted that her amazing talent has been rewarded.
Gift Xpress Contemporary Cutting Edge Isobel Badin Isobel is a young designer from North Queensland who has created this gorgeous mini dress capturing the modern version of the classic flapper dress and inspired by the original iconic party dress. Isobel has always dreamed of becoming a fashion designer and clearly, she is fulfilling this dream.
Dermatix Laser & Skin Care Fashions on the Field “Ja Delle Designs”

Hester Jarvis of Ja Delle Designs in Townsville has been another fantastic entrant in our awards since their inception in 2005. This garment, titled “Carmen” is made from unique Italian fabric and is accompanied by a stunning fascinator made from the same fabric.
Leather Souls Evening Wear “KAR Couture”

KellyAnne, originally from Gladstone, and trained at the Whitehouse Institute of Design, impressed the judges with this gorgeous scarlet velvet dress with draping beadwork cascading down the back of the gown.
Absolute Homes Wearable Art Chilli House Gladstone’s own Helen Maguire from Chilli House has created this fantastic crochet piece inspired by the 1960’s. Hours and hours of work goes into creating a garment like this and Helen’s hard work and patience certainly reaped rewards for her at this event.
Gladstone Bridal - Bridal Wear “KAR Couture”

The judges selected one of Kellie-Anne’s gowns for the second time. KellyAnne’s business is based in Brisbane where she specializes in Haute Couture design. This stunning gown features silk, tulle, French lace, opulent beading, crystals, diamantes and for something old, an antique brooch on the sash.
Pioneer Road Services and Darang & Co Pty Ltd Regional Award Donella Smith-Ashton Donella is a Gladstone lady who has been designing and sewing her own clothes for the last six years. This entry of children’s hand crocheted garments impressed the judges with it’s vibrant, fun-loving colours.
Academy of Design Young Achievers Award Daisy Love Daisy Love from Acacia Ridge has been designing since she was a child and is working hard to refine her skills in the fashion industry. Daisy’s swimwear collection captures glamour with its lustrous fabrics and silk trimmings imported from Italy.
QantasLink Supreme Design Award “Ja Delle Designs”

Hester’s Fashions of the Field fabulous Spanish gown is made from one-of-a-kind fabric imported from Italy and features layers and layers of pleated silk under skirt. It is finished off with a stunning fascinator made from the same fabric.
