The awards

Fashion design is about exploring creativity, fresh ideas, styles and trends and conceptualising what first appears on paper into a fashionable and marketable outfit.

The Sothertons Fashion Design Awards is integral in providing budding designers the platform for future achievement in this exciting industry. This premier event on the Queensland fashion calendar offers designers, manufacturers and students from throughout the region a first class opportunity to showcase their talents and skills.

Award entrants are given the opportunity to hone their skills, showcase their creativity and flair, and learn from the exposure to competition and interaction with successful and accomplished industry professionals.

Sothertons fashion Awards

The Sothertons Fashion Design Awards were held over the 10th & 11th of August 2007 in the regional city of Gladstone, and attracted over 250 entries from across Queensland, Australia and New Zealand.

Closed preliminary judging took place during the day on Friday 11th August with a Public Preliminary Parade held on Friday evening.
The most outstanding garments selected by the judges were announced as finalists at the Public Preliminary Parade, and these garments were then featured in a professionally choreographed fashion parade at the Gala Awards dinner which was held on Saturday 12th August.

The winners of each category were announced at the Gala Awards dinner along with the Regional Award winner, the Young Achievers Award winner and the Supreme Design Award.

In 2007 the prize pool was valued at over $27,000 in cash and prizes.

The event is organised by a committee of dedicated volunteers and is supported by the region's generous business community. The Sothertons Fashion Design Awards is truly a community event Gladstone can be proud of.
